It doesn’t, not really.  In the same way that you said that your synesthetic capability can only account for so much, even when I feel that, through using Braille, I can visualize what I’m reading, my field of vision, in that case, is much narrower, in that it’s only the extent that my fingers can go, just as I presume your own synesthesia is limited by your tongue.

Ultimately, it’s not that I’ve lost all of my “sight”.  It’s just that my ways of perceiving the world around me are in much smaller, much narrower fields, using my fingers or my cane.

Psychologists work with minds, neurologists work with brains.  I’ve found myself increasingly drawn to the ways in which brains work in addition to that of the mind.  My advisor says I would make a good cognitive scientist.
