==> Even as you explained it sounded odd. To go wandering the streets so late at night with no real purpose, would definitely be considered odd for any human, but not for anyone of your race. That was often the main difficulty of living on Earth and yet it was still a gratifying experience. It’s not as if people really bothered you much anymore, so you should be thankful.

After a few more moments, the pair of you finally turn on to Central Street. You were filled with a sort of pride in being able to escort the young lady to her home without injury or many obstacles.

In the rain, at that?  Well, you must certainly have been starved for fresh air if you were seeking it during a thunderstorm.  Do you work in a stuffy environment?

You enunciate your words clearly, as if this curious accent of his meant that his comprehension would lag, though intellectually it’s become clear to you that English is his native language as well, from what you can discern of his prosody and speech patterns.  He’s not uncomfortable with it at all, but something just seems a little…off.

When you hear that you’re almost home, you smile at him, thankful to have gotten home safely.  You’re not sure what you would have done without the kindness of a stranger.  Then again, it was that same stranger that broke your cane, so you wouldn’t have been in the situation regardless.  At any rate, you thank him.
