playing the piano is something you can’t really use sight on. yeah, it helps you learn to read music, but actually playing is all touch. once you know where you are in the octave, it always follows the same pattern. that’s something you have to memorize on touch, even if you can see. if you tried to learn on sight, you’d never get any good, so you should have an edge up on a lot of people

You listen with rapture as John talks about his instrument.  His voice takes on a different tone when he does so, and you love the sound of that voice.  You try to internalize the advice that he offers you, tapping your fingers against the table to as to emulate what he’s talking about.

Mm…thank you, John.  I’ll definitely try to apply that to my techniques.
