“It’s always a good idea to push limits! Hehehe, I do that a lot with people, gets their true colors to show, ya? And I don’t think it will ever be too late! You can learn anything all over again if you set your mind to it, hehehe~ You got this far, didn’t you? You may be 18, but you’re still a kid at heart, I can tell! Something you’ve been through has changed you, you want that time it took from you back. Perhaps it took your sight as well? Hehehe! I’m only joking!
But they hurt my brain! I mean, reely! Hehehehehe~ I got all these fish-puns from this guy names Eridan, he’s pretty funny! You know him?
….I think grey is just really boring! I mean, if you had to pick a color you would have to stare at your whole life, who would want to pick grey? What not pick something bright like red or blue? Or green! Hehehehe, maybe teal blue or coral orange! Something bright and wonderful! Something that wouldn’t bring you down! Because, who wants to be brought down? Hehehehe!
Well, I haven’t been in a library in awhile, the only books I have are my legal books, and those are pretty old! My Dad gave them to me when I was young, they had been my great great grandmother’s or something! Or maybe they belonged to my mom! I don’t know where she went, after I left? I don’t know if they’re still alive, either! I think they are, though, they seemed pretty happy and healthy the last time we talked, hehehe~ But of course, the rest of your senses are important! Who would want to lose 2 senses right after another? Like touch or hearing would probably fuck me over pretty bad, hehehe~
Well, I have to find some view to make this mess look good, right? I think there’s a truth in everything, just waiting to be found! Hehehe~ I’ll scour this city until I find it, to! You just watch me! But Rose, what do you want to be? You said you read “leather bound tomes” before, did you want to be a historian or something?!
You were never used to needing to rely on someone, it was just unnatural. Why bother someone with pesky things you could learn to do on your own? It always seemed to make more sense to you that way. You taught yourself to walk again, to “see” again, to use your surroundings. Hell, you even got your dad to teach you how to fight! Your cane was a sword cane when you unscrewed it, and you knew damn well how to use it to. You had gone to the nines to ensure not only your safety, but every around you’s safety as well.
Of course! Hehehe, maybe we can go out for dinner or something sometime! That’d be fun!
That’s a rule by which I’ve certainly endeavored to live. Since it isn’t exactly likely that I’ll see again, I’d like to utilize every resource at my disposal to try to find other methods of dealing with the world, to see in more and different ways.
Surprisingly enough, you seem to have struck a correct answer on all of those counts, Pyrope. There was a turning point in my adolescence, when the world became dark to me, and it’s probably stunted my emotional development more than I’d have liked. I wasted too much time ruing my lot and probably not enough time not worrying about something which ultimately wasn’t something I really could have controlled, certainly not with the information I had at the time.
Hmm…the name sounds familiar, but I can’t say I recall precisely. Where might I know him from?
That perhaps might be the case if I were staring at any color at all, Terezi, but I think one of the symptoms of being blind is that I can’t see, and as such, cannot see these colors. Surely you’d understand.
You might enjoy visiting the local library for the blind. I’ve visited several times in the past year, and while Braille is hardly the optimal modality for reading, they have a large selection of audiobooks as well. I believe they also have a system for requesting books from the National Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, which itself is a subdivision of the U.S. Library of Congress. All in all, there are a great deal of resources there.
…You don’t know how your parents are doing? Do you not visit them during breaks in school, or have you moved out already?
I agree, definitely. I’m not sure how I could cope with losing my hearing. It strikes me as the kind of thing that would be devastating.
I’ll keep an eye on you, Terezi, if you say so. As for my own plans after college, I’d like to pursue medicine, though I’m unsure whether medical schools will be sufficiently convinced that my devotion and my hard work will outweigh the potential limitations that could stem from being unable to see as a physician. It’s going to be hard work either way.
You're made audibly uncomfortable by the subject matter. You know that the path to becoming a physician will be fraught with difficulty, and you know that at every step of the way others will question whether you can truly function as a doctor without your eyesight, and it’s already overwhelming enough that you’re not sure whether you can do it yourself. Squirming, you sit up taller, using the leverage from your cane to push you upward. You try to shift the subject gradually.
Absolutely. I’d like that. Do you have a specific favorite kind of cuisine that you like particularly, or are you open to anything?
Fear not, Ms. Pyrope. My love for language stems not from a pathological desire to prove myself to be superior to all...
