You return your attention to the woman beside you. Okay, wow. She was asking you for help. This is what you were hoping for, but definitely not something you have prepared yourself for. Not in the least bit.

Your voice is shaking and you stumble over some of the vowels and syllables but you speak nethertheless.

let’s see….oh, there’s chicken tenders! i mean, that sounds pretty good, unless you’re a vegetarian or something, uh…there’s also pot pie. tons of salads. blue cheese and walnut salad. asian chopped salad. seafood fettuccine. grilled cheese sandwich…

Hmm.

You listen carefully to the choices he reads out to you, nodding after he trails off, satisfied with the options that he’s presented you.  You can tell that he’s grateful to be able to do something for you, and well, it really wasn’t something you could do yourself.

I think the Asian chopped salad sounds delicious.  I think I’ll take that.
