About as well as I could be in this place. The food here sucks, the doctors and nurses treat me like I’m some fragile little boy who’s never been in a hospital before. Hospitals just bring back bad memories, which is why I really didn’t want Jane calling an ambulance when she found me.

You tilt your head and shrug your shoulders in ambivalence. He doesn’t sound well, you note, but he does sound grateful for human company, and you’re happy to provide that for him. You think he might just understand how you feel a little more than others, though you’re not quite sure why you get that feeling.
I sympathize. I remember a time in my life where I spent months going from doctor to doctor, ophthalmologist to ophthalmologist, each and every one trying to fix me. I don’t have any fondness for hospitals, though somehow, paradoxically, becoming a doctor still interests me.
