It probably happens at every age, but it’s simply that it happens at one of the turning points of one’s life that makes it so meaningful for those of us who go through it at that age.

It almost makes me wish I could have just gotten it over and done with from an early age, so I wouldn’t really be able to conceive of what I had lost.  It would just have been one of the manifold adjustments of early childhood.

You shrug.

In any case, there really isn’t room for me to complain.  My life is charmed otherwise, and I’d hope that this one event, significant though it might be, won’t taint that.
